Introduction
The proposal of the Deaf Ashes tour in England , 2008 all started in a hotel room in Adelaide, Australia at 31 December 2006. Deaf Cricket Australia had their domestic tournament in Adelaide. There were discussions between the delegates of ECAD and DCA with an action plan for the next fiercely competitive Deaf Ashes series.
Recent History between the 2 countries
Most people know about the recent 5-0 Australia thrashing of England in 2006-07 and the famous 2-1 victory by England in 2005 in hearing cricket.
The recent deaf cricket history reveals that Australia was very successful in the Australia 2004 tour when they retained the Ashes 1-0 and won comfortably in the one-day series 5-0. Andrew Watkins, Phil Cox and Nick Watkins were easily the stars for Australia while Umesh Valjee, Chris Hughes and Mark Woodman performed in vain for England.
The 2nd World Cup deaf cricket took place in Lucknow, India in November 2005. Each country played each other in the group matches. Australia beat England in a thrilling one-wicket win in the last over chasing 214.
Bigger stakes took place, the next time those two countries met, in the semi-final for a place in the World Cup Final. Australia was bowled out for 141, the wickets were shared around but Paul Allen put in a star performance of 4 for 17. England knocked off the runs with 4 wickets to spare to make history by beating Australia for the first time in deaf cricket.
