England Deaf won their second game in succession against their Australian counterparts to secure a 2-2 draw in the one-day series. James Dixon smashed an unbeaten 51 off 56 balls, including six fours, to see England to their victory target of 189 with two balls to spare at Campbell Park, Milton Keynes. However, earlier in the innings the visitors had reduced their hosts to 55-6 . The recovery began with a lively stand between Darrell Steele and Stephen George but when George went for 25 there was still much to do. James Dixon and Darrell Sykes simply ran the Australians ragged in a stand of 81. helped by the occasional boundary. Sykes was out for 29 with justeight runs needed for victory, but Dixon saw England home.
They had earlier been indebted to opening bowler Sykes who took 4-22 from his nine overs, including both Australia openers for ducks. Australia’s middle order ensured they got their team up to a competitive total, with contributions coming from Nick Watkins (43) and Terry Hall (35 not out). Sykes was ably backed up by Mark Woodman, whose two wickets came at a cost of just 23 runs in 10 overs.
