welcome...
from BACD President Roger Fuggle
As President of the BACD (The British Association for Cricketers with Disabilities), I would like to extend a very warm welcome into the Association of the members of the England Cricket Association for the Deaf.
The main role of the BCAD since it was formed in 1991 has been in developing cricket for people with physical and learning disabilities. We focus very much on the interests of the players, whilst recognising the tremendous role that people with disabilities can play in the areas of scoring, umpiring and the administration of the game.We are represented on the Disabilities Sub Group of the ECB, where we first became involved in deaf cricket. Les Townend has been a member of the sub group since its early days and is now attended by Mike OMahony. Since ECAD was formed, I have been working with Mike and Les in my role of Disabilities Consultant to the ECB so I know of their commitment to developing deaf cricket.
I am sure that by working together, the two associations can make strong headway in development the game for cricketers with disabilities. There is a lot to do at school and club level, to secure the long-term future of the game and together we can ensure that cricketers are able to play the game to the highest level that their ability allows. A 5 year plan for disabled cricket has been agreed under the auspices of the ECB and we will be striving to deliver increased participation at all levels and in all aspects of the game to our members.
President
Roger Fuggle
