Twenty20 international match report by Mike Rose

Thursday 17th July                         .
Colwyn Bay CC, 77 Penrhyn Avenue, Rhos-on-Sea, Colwyn Bay
Conwy, LL28 4LR.

Australia won the 20/20 International at Colwyn Bay by 32 runs after winning the toss and batting first. The Watkins’ brothers set the foundation for a substantial score in the opening six overs with some stylish stokes before Andrew was caught by Moazzam Rashid at mid on for 14. Nick continued to dominate the attack and scored 80 at faster than a run a ball receiving good support from Luke Trudgett 33* as Australia finished 0n 154-4 after their 20 overs. Stephen George was the pick of the ECAD bowlers with 2-18.

In reply ECAD lost wickets at regular intervals with only Mike O’Mahony making any impression early on. He was hampered by a slight injury and fell trying to increase the run rate for 22. After his departure the only batsmen to stay for any length of time was Darrell Sykes whose 23 included some swift running between the sticks. Backed by some fine catching, Luke Trudgett 3-24 ensured that the target was too large as ECAD were bowled out for 122 in 18.4 overs. Luke Trudgett was named Man of the Match for his all round performance.
